Murals in Chemainus

The murals document the area
On a motorcycle trip to Vancouver Island, we were on our way back to Nanaimo from Victoria, and we decided to stop for lunch in Chemainus.

It was one of those moments when we both ended up being quite stunned by what we found.

A couple years before we got there, a number of the town’s volunteers in town had commissioned a series of murals on buildings in the town to commemorate the town’s heritage.

It was an absolutely delightful find. Murals commemorated the town’s Indigenous roots, its place in the lumber industry, its multicultural heritage, and its place in Canada’s history of war and remembrance.

If you’re ever in the area, stop by. These sights are well worth exploring!
